Steven, Visitor Services Officer

Steven joined the Parliament as a Visitor Services Officer in July 2016, with a background in customer services.

"Working in Visitor Services provides a great opportunity to meet visitors from all over the world and share your knowledge of the Scottish Parliament. No two days are same, as a Visitor Services Officer is involved in many different aspects of the visitor experience. Whether we are welcoming visitors in the Main Hall, conducting guided tours of the complex, answering telephone enquiries or helping a customer find the perfect memento of their visit in the parliament shop, we ensure that visitors receive all the information and assistance required for an interesting and enjoyable visit.

While working in Visitor Services I have had the opportunity to take part in the promotion of various activities and events taking place throughout the parliament complex and beyond, such as the yearly Festival of Politics, the Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design 2016 and the International Culture Summit 2016. These events are a great chance to get to know other teams and gain a broader understanding of how we all collectively contribute towards the visitor experience."1.

What do you like most about working at the Parliament?

I really enjoy hearing visitors’ interpretations of the many unique architectural features around the parliament complex –  they can make you see things you walk past every day in a different light.

Is there anything you find challenging working here?

Showcasing all the highlights of the parliament complex in one hour on a guided tour can be challenging as there is so much to see!
