A day in the life: Jonathan Nisbet, Entry Level Analyst Developer

Working as a developer at the Parliament is a great experience. Every day brings new technological challenges with it. These can range from utilising modern technologies to creating a new solution to a problem or resolving issues with existing legacy systems. I have recently been heavily involved in one our high-profile in-house projects to re-engineer the application that the Clerks use to process the Questions and Motions submitted by MSPs on a daily basis. For the last 5-6 months a typical day has involved a daily catch up with the rest of the project team and the head Clerk in the morning to report our progress and then working under the guidance of a Senior Developer to build this application and design solutions to the requirements that are given to us then having to down tools when issues with existing systems arise. So every day is a challenge but it is ultimately very rewarding once these challenges have been overcome.
