PE01699: Release of murder victim bodies for funeral arrangements

Justice

Petitioner: Amanda Digby

Status:
Lodged

Date Lodged: 23 July 2018

Calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to change post-mortem examination protocols to allow for the deceased to be released as early as possible to enable families to make funeral arrangements for their loved ones.

Petition History:

Do you agree that families of murder victims should be enabled to make funeral arrangements for their loved ones as soon as possible?

Would you support the idea of having a second post-mortem carried out independently to ensure families can say goodbye to their relatives without unnecessary delay?

Let families lay a loved one to rest so the can grieve

This must be terrible for families, pro longs the grief, when grief is bad enough to deal with

No victim of murder or their family should be left in limbo like this. Two independent post-mortem examinations can be carried out ASAP and the results passed onto the PFs office and to any defence lawyer when a person is charged. The victims body should be released to their fsmikieuthin days.

It is hard for most people to understand the need to bury our loved ones The thought that our relative is lying with no respect in a morgue is hard to live with On the other hand Police Scotland have a job to do Rules have a reason It does seem that an independent Post Mortem could be carried by someone from England Ireland or Wales They have no agenda I doubt they would cost more It would allow the defense of any person charged to feel they have achieved an independent Post Mortem It would allow the family to bury their loved one The defense could carry out any tests on the resulting blocks and slides resulting from a post mortem Good luck to this family I hope this works out for you

Yes I do agree , bereavement is painful enough , this is just prolonging the suffering of this family .
