PE01633: Private Criminal Prosecution in Scotland

Justice

Petitioner: Bill Alexander

Status:
Lodged

Date Lodged: 19 January 2017

Calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to change the law to give the people of Scotland the same legal rights as the rest of the UK by removing the requirement that the Lord Advocate must first give permission before a private criminal prosecution can be commenced in Scotland.

A petition to give the people of Scotland the same rights that exist elsewhere in the United Kingdom in regard to private criminal prosecutions.

After the evidence that has been collected it makes sense to change the law

The law at present is does nothing for the victims. Or the grieving relatives.

Is this the dictionary definition of a travesty of justice? I thought the Law was there to protect victims and their families, not to humiliate them?

The Lord Advocate is an Officer of the State. Such a person could not be an impartial judge if the alleged crime involved a government employee or a branch of government.
